Got Gauguin on my mind...

I love the color in these paintings. I also am a big fan of his Tahitian women.

Journal 1

After reading the examples of "creative ways to exist as an artist" in our text I was really interested in Keith Haring and Reverend Howard Finster and felt like I could relate to their works.

Keith Haring's work and outlook is inspiring.  I love that before he installed a new museum show he would set aside time to create a mural with the local children first.  Being an aspiring art teacher, I appreciate and admire his dedication to children and the playful murals he creates with them.
I love this mural he did for the St. Patrick's daycare center.

Reverend Howard Finster is another artist I related to. He is not afraid of what the world thinks of his art, or that as an artist in this day it is out of the "norm" to create art with such bold statements about the Bible.  I admire his dedication and obedience and aspire to create art incorporating the word of God as well.
"I'm not out trying to make money or to be a big artist.  I'm trying to get the world straightened out." - Howard Finster
